CarStory

Privacy Policy

Effective September 28, 2026

CarStory is a car-maintenance log for iPhone and iPad. It is built so that your data stays yours. In short: we do not collect, store, sell or share any of your personal data. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.

Where your data is stored

Everything you enter — vehicles, photos, fuel fill-ups, service records, parts, documents and reminders — is stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for your Apple Account, CarStory also keeps a copy in your own private iCloud database so it syncs across your devices. That data is protected by your Apple Account; the developer of CarStory cannot see or access it.

What leaves your device, and when

CarStory only contacts outside services when you use a feature that needs them:

These requests go directly from your device to NHTSA. As with any internet request, NHTSA's servers can see your device's IP address; NHTSA's own privacy policy applies to those services. CarStory does not send this information anywhere else and does not keep a record of the requests.

Purchases

CarStory is free for one vehicle. The optional Unlimited Garage purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. The app only checks with Apple, on your device, whether your Apple Account owns the purchase.

Photos, files and notifications

What we don't do

Deleting your data

Delete a vehicle in the app to remove it and everything recorded for it. Deleting the app removes the data stored on that device. To remove the iCloud copy, open iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → CarStory and delete its data.

Children

CarStory is not directed at children and, because it collects no personal data, collects none from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
